The Musée des Ursulines received the Prix du patrimoine Benjamin-Sulte 2016 for his project Sauvegarde du patrimoine mémoriel des Ursulines during the Grands Prix culturels de Trois-Rivières, which took place on May 18.

The Musée des Ursulines received the Prix du patrimoine Benjamin-Sulte 2014 for his project A paced life of prayer during the Grands Prix culturels de Trois-Rivières, which took place on May 20.

A paced life of prayer is a project on the preservation of memorial heritage of the Ursulines of Trois-Rivières. Divided into two stages the project includes the realization of three interviews with nuns and three additional recordings. The interviews took place in winter 2013 and show the testimony of three Ursulines in order to learn more about the traditional religious practices that punctuated the day when the community was still cloistered.

The Museum was awarded the Prix coup de cœur 2010 by the regional jury at the Grands Prix du tourisme for its handing down of traditions, the duty to remember our history, the very large number of visitors and the excellence of the on-site tourism presentation.

This year, the jury awarded two Coups de Coeur awards: one to Jeunesse Hip Hop Mauricie – Festival Urbain and the other to the Musée des Ursulines. One was dedicated to an event for youth and the other to a tourist attraction the presents the 300 year history of the Ursulines.

This award means a lot to the museum: their peers in the tourism community recognize the Musée des Ursulines as a major tourist attraction in the Mauricie. The fact that the members of the jury recognize the museum’s important role in communicating local and regional history, as well as sharing our intangible heritage, is a great honour and an encouragement to continue to share and promote this heritage.

This success, which will increase our visibility and is a source of great pride, motivates us to continue working on future museum projects.

At the annual convention of the Société des musées québécois, held in Québec, the museum received the Award for Excellence, Institutional Category 3, for its exhibition Over 300 Years of Live Memory. This exhibition honours the tangible, intangible and archival heritage of the Ursulines.

The Prix de la Société des musées québécois recognize, motivate and reward excellence in museum practice in Québec. They honour the achievements of members who have made important contributions to the advancement of museology in Québec.

Some of the elements that made the exhibition stand out include video interviews with five nuns, audio clips, archival records and moveable heritage. They represent a veritable ethnological salvage of the living memories of people who strictly adhered to their faith, which often took a lot of courage, adaptation, work, self-denial and love for their neighbours. The interviews give us an inside view of some of the history and traditions that are intrinsic to the Ursulines of Trois-Rivières. They help us appreciate the work of these women who devoted their life to God and to the service of others.
